Tinkertime

This term we are very excited to introduce a new Tinkertime unit. Tinkertime will be integrated with Geography and History. Students will be looking at all different types of technology and how it has changed over time.

Students will be extending their coding skills to program Ozobots. We have had a practice trying to code the little bots to change their speed. Using different colours, students colour three or four elements of a code for the Ozobot to read. These codes tell the Ozobots to go certain speeds, such as turbo, cruise or snail dose or perform certain actions like spinning or turning left and right. The kids are having a great time learning the different codes and seeing the bots in action.

During History, we will be looking at how technology has changed over time. We brainstormed together about what technology is and the different categories certain items belong to. We will be starting a little class museum if you have any different types of technology we could borrow such as old mobile phones, music devises, tapes or even a typewriter.

During Geography we will be looking at different types of maps. Students will learn how to read and create maps. We will be using the Ozobots to create a 3D map and coding the Ozobots to move around the map to get to a desired location.

We are very excited to see what the kids come up with. If you have any recyclable material at home or anything you can contribute to our classroom museum we would be very appreciative. Thomas has bought in a game console and Esha has shared some cassette tapes with us to keep in our museum.

  1. Technology can change so quickly so I am sure we can have a look around the house (and possibly our Grandparents house) to see what old technology we still have in use and see what is in storage.
