Mixing it up in Science

This Term in Science we are going to be looking at different mixtures. I started to unit by talking to students about the word 'dissolve' We talked about what it meant, how we knew when something dissolved and we also discussed materials that might dissolve when we mix it in water.

Next we talked about the terms 'soluble' and 'insoluble' and what they meant. I asked students, what does it mean when something is soluble? We had a wonderful discussion about materials that are soluble and insoluble and then we went and did some testing.

We hypothesised about what materials might be soluble and then we tested them. We found out that sugar, salt and coffee are just a few items that dissolve. You might like to ask you children what else we tested. It was a lot of fun and I am looking forward to our next Science lesson :-)

  1. Hi Mrs Fuller & 1/2F,
This morning Charli tells me over breakfast that dirt & sand are insoluble, Sounds like a very interesting class activity. Very cool.
    Have a great day
